What are the differences in home prices between Middle Tennessee and the Northeast?

While prices in the Northeast vary by location, typical prices in the suburban New York City area can be expected to be several times higher than what they are the suburban areas surrounding Nashville Tennessee. In the suburban Nashville area, there are many fine three bedroom homes with over two thousand square feet of living space priced under two hundred thousand dollars. Those who live in the suburban New York City area know what homes such homes would be priced at there.

What is the traffic situation like in Middle Tennessee?

The area is served by many multi-lane limited access highways. Most are in excellent condition, with several recently widened. Some are four and five lanes in each direction, and exceed current traffic requirements. Some moderate congestion occurs in the immediate Nashville area during rush hour. However, unlike many urban areas in the northeast, rush hour in Nashville consists of what the name originally meant in other areas decades ago; that is an hour (8AM-9AM and 5PM-6PM).

What are some of the other differences I will experience if I relocate to Tennessee from the New York area?

You will have to get used to what you may consider to be extreme courtesy and politeness. For example, people holding the door open and insisting you enter first, hearing the words “excuse me” repeated often, teenagers addressing you as “Sir” or “Ma’am” among other things. Also courtesy on the road is customary and after a year or two you may realize that you haven’t heard a car horn sound in all that time.
